OJUKWU

Yesterday, BBC carried a wail
Around the globe on its waves
That the lost battle-leader
That once upon our memory of peace
Proclaimed eastern Anagoland
A flag and anthem independent
Republic of FraBia
Joined the forever catalogue
Of anti-ancestorhood,
And I screamed, OH DOG!

 And now what remembrance
Shall the fireflies celebrate at night?
What eulogies shall the dawn compose
Upon the branches of peace?
And what dream dances shall our feet
Carve on the remaining airs of Biafra?
The one lost long ago
In the muzzle of aborted dreams
What memories, what remembrances
Can we offer Ojukwu?

25/11/11 Legon.
